In an ideal world we would be able to pursue education throughout our lives without financial inhibition and in conjunction with our paid jobs (but not necessarily related to our paid jobs). Education is in my opinion a means of progression, escape and nurtures the human psyche.
Continuing education has offered me a purpose when I have had none and a crutch when I couldn't move forward on my own two feet.
I have been lucky enough to go through the traditional levels with Phd being the next upward step. I'm not jumping on that train though because I'd probably end up jumping off it.
At the moment I am focusing on my small business plan and developing my entrepreneurial repertoire, not a bad way to spend a few hours a week and it's been good for me. My advice to anyone wanting to learn, interested in meeting new people and maybe chasing away the blues a bit is to get on a course.
“The best thing for being sad," replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, "is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.”

P.s when I say education obviously I mean the 'good' kind and not Indoctrination or any of that shite.
