Last night we watched Ruby Wax talk about mindfulness and then today it dawned on me that drawing is in a way a kind off mindful practice. It takes away anxieties and focuses my mind on an enjoyable, although sometimes challenging exercise. I also realised that during times of lowness my drawing habits wean and I loose faith in it's worth.
Another string to this thinking attached itself when I was drawing my Simple soup diagram (above) and all niggling free floating worries and anxieties faded. Making soup, for me, can have the same effect.
During my time at the Burren Art College I produced an embroidery linking mindfulness to soup making (below) and that my friends, is a lovely full circle of a deeper illustrative practice.
